Wandering Words: First Poem Installed in Wilton, Iowa

Wandering Words being engraved in Wilton, Iowa.

The Muscatine Art Council’s Wandering Words sidewalk poetry contest is taking its poetic journey beyond Muscatine, with its first installation in the neighboring Wilton, Iowa. This exciting project allows the community to experience art in a fresh and accessible way, blending poetry with the everyday walk of life.

The Wandering Words initiative invites local poets to submit original poems, which are then chosen to be etched into sidewalks throughout the area. These poems provide a unique, immersive experience for residents and visitors, offering moments of reflection, joy, and inspiration as they stroll through the town.

Wilton’s first sidewalk poem marks a milestone for this growing project. It is a celebration of creativity, community, and the power of words to transform public spaces. By combining art and the environment, the Muscatine Art Council is fostering a deeper connection to both poetry and the places where we live.

This expansion of Wandering Words Sidewalk Poetry Competition into Wilton is just the beginning. The contest will celebrate its 10th anniversary during the month of April 2025. The Arts Council invites writers in all towns within Muscatine County to participate.
